How to prepare for JEE Mains 2017 in 3 months?

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a Common Engineering Entrance Examination consisting of Choice based pattern which is conducted for admission in various engineering colleges & Universities and courses all over India. It is viewed universally as the most challenging engineering admission tests.

JEE consists of 2 parts, JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE-Advanced is for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), whereas JEE-Main exam is for admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Centrally Government of India Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs). Students selected in JEE Mains are eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced. Over 200,000 students are selected each year.

JEE MAIN

JEE Main exam has two papers i.e Paper-1 and Paper-2. Candidates may opt for either or both of them. Both papers contain multiple choice based questions. Paper 1 is for admission to Bachelorsof Engineering/ Bachelors of Technology courses. It is conducted both online and offline. Paper-2 is for admission in Bachelors of Architecture and Bachelors of Planning courses. It is conducted offline only.

JEE Main has a fixed exam pattern. JEE Main Paper-1 is of 3 hrs and consists of 30 multiple choice questions in each of the 3 subjects i.e physics, chemistry and maths. There is negative marking for an incorrect answer. 4 marks are given for correct answers and 1 mark is subtracted for incorrect answers.

An important change related to 12th board Exam percentage is made in JEE Main 2017. The weightage of 12th board Exam percentage is no more considered for calculating JEE (Main) examination ranks from 2017 onwards.

Candidates to qualify for the admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs & other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Advanced) examination / JEE (Main) examination ranks, they should have scored at least 75 percentage marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12^th Board class examination conducted by respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65 percentage in the 12th class examination.

All the Indian candidates should possess AADHAAR ID card issued by UIDAI. At the time of filling application form of JEE (Main) Examination –2017, the candidates have to enter their AADHAAR number, name, date of birth & gender which will be validated with the UIDAI’s data.  In case, these particulars do not match, candidates will not be able to fill the application form for JEE (Main) Examination –2017. Therefore, the candidates are advised to ensure that their AADHAAR ID card has all correct details related to their name, date of birth & gender as per school records. If there is some mismatch in details, the candidates should immediately get it corrected in AADHAAR data or school records.

Your in 3 months (90 days) strategy to prepare for JEE MAIN 2017 are as follows:

- After completing Class 12th curriculum, you must immediately start revision for Class 11th syllabus. As 40-45% of the questions asked in JEE Main are from Class 11th syllabus. Time is a crucial factor here, as students would not get enough time later due to Class 12th board exam.

- From November to February, student must simultaneously solve Class 12th board exam test paper & also refer to previous years’ papers. Concept-wise preparation brings fundamental clarity for JEE Main

- Allocate some time in daily schedule to practice model answers for CBSE board

- Students enrolled in coaching center must attend review classes so that they go through systematic pattern for revision. If not planned properly, revision could be haphazard.

- Make a note of all doubts that may arise over the next couple of months & try to solve them on your own. But if you are not able to, then consult your subject teacher.

- Help & seek help from peer groups. Best way to revise is to explain a topic to friends. Complete clarity with respect to a topic comes only when it is expressed in own words. If possible teach topic-wise. Try to make it a regular practice.

- Make summary points to remember all concepts topic wise & flag questions with twist, intermingling of concepts requiring analytical skills. This will help in fast revision couple of days before or even on the eve of examination.

- Student should aim at 100 % strike rate i.e. all attempted questions are correct. This will give you competitive edge over others who will be left behind in the race due to negative score on incorrect attempts.

- To gain benefits, students should remain focused through-out the preparation period with a positive attitude to study with utmost concentration

- A short-break of 5 - 10 minutes after every one & half hours of serious study is advisable.

- Hard work and dedication are the keys to success.

- Find a mentor in your close circle. It can be your brother, sister, mother, father, cousin, class teacher – anyone.

- Know your strengths and weaknesses

- Plan your time table

- Practice previous year papers

- use self taken notes

- Focus on NCERT books. Important points under each concept need to be remembered.

Topics to be considered for preparation to crack JEE MAINS 2017

Important Topics of Physics: In Physics, the laws of motion, various conservation laws like the conservation of linear momentum, angular momentum, mechanical energy, concept of potential energy and uniformly accelerated motion, field theory (electric, magnetic and gravitational field) are must to understand. You should have a fair understanding of Kinematics and Dynamics and it is essential to be able to build a strong problem solving ability. Also, the Theory of Fields (Electromagnetism) is very important. Pay special attention to Optics and Modern Physics, which is usually neglected by the students.

Important Topics of Chemistry: Physical Chemistry is quite scoring. Students tend to neglect Inorganic Chemistry, but just a proper understanding of it can prove beneficial. Basic concepts of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry must be thoroughly prepared. Going through complete Inorganic Chemistry 4-5 times is very important.

Important Topics of Mathematics: Calculus forms base for almost every part of Mathematics. Other important and scoring topics are Determinants, Sequences, Permutation and Combination. In addition to this, students must also have an in-depth understanding of topics like Co-ordinate Geometry, Vectors and trigonometry. Three-dimensional geometry should be practiced to get additional or compensating score.
